Espacio Lagares is one of those places
that remind you that Logroño not only drank wine: it was made at home, in the city, with technique and neighborhood. It is in Rúa Vieja (18-20) and preserves the remains of presses and tanks: a testimony of the wine culture embedded in the urban, as if the subsoil were a collective pantry.
The beauty here is that archaeology does not feel like a “museum”; it feels like “life”: the wine presses speak of neighbors, of harvests, of agreements, of work. And, above all, of domestic engineering: how to press, how to decant, how to store. He thinks that before stainless steel and laboratories, this was the state-of-the-art technology of the neighborhood.
Architecture to be fixed: the logic of production spaces. There is no gratuitous ornamentation; there is stone where it is needed, hollows where liquids need to be moved, and that idea of “circuit” that today we would call process. It is industrial history… in miniature.
In addition, it is part of a very well thought-out ensemble to understand the old town: wine presses, wine cellars and Camino are intertwined, because the pilgrim brings passage and the city offers wine, rest and commerce.
A fun plan for all ages: play at imagining the sound. Here you do not hear anything… but before there would be splashing, wood, voices, laughter and some “careful, it spills! Logroño, in the end, is also explained in this way: with history that ferments.
